Hillel International High Holidays

10 Days of Awe

Ever wonder what the 10 days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are meant for?

The BJC recognizes a unique opportunity during the 2020 High Holidays. With so much more time at home to reflect on our year that is coming to an end (and what a challenging year it has been!), we wanted to honor a period of time in the Jewish calendar that is often overlooked. The 10 days of repentance, or awe, are set aside for Jewish people to work on themselves before being "judged" by our actions on Yom Kippur. It is a time of repentance, charity, and prayer, whatever that might mean for you. The BJC will be using these 10 days to help students engage in reflection, introspection, and goal setting for the year to come.

As part of the 10 Days of Awe, Rabbi Jake will be offering office hours where you can come and discuss prompts that trouble you or make you think. This is a great time to have that philosophical chat you've been wanting to have with Rabbi Jake for so long!

Rosh Hashanah

(9/18) Rosh Hashanah Boxes:
While we can't share a big meal together in one space, the BJC will still be offering a Rosh Hashanah dinner kit for students to pick up before the holiday begins! You can select to pick your box up from the BJC or from outside Ohill.

(9/19) Modern Rosh Hashanah Service

Join Rabbi Jake for a non-traditional Rosh Hashanah activity where we'll discuss prayer and ritual practices that can help us through isolation, anxiety, and other challenges.

(9/19) Innovative Tashlich Ritual

Join Annie for a Tashlich service with a twist! Not sure what Tashlich is? Learn more here

(9/20) Torah Study with Paige
