Meet Our Team
Jake Rubin, Executive DirectorJake has served as the Executive Director of the Brody Jewish Center at the University of Virginia since 2009. During his tenure, Jake has served as the President of the United Ministries at UVa, a coach for new Hillel directors, and a member of the Executive Committee of Hillel International’s Board of Directors as well as the Chair of Hillel International’s Directors Cabinet. He was awarded the Cohen Fellowship as well as the Richard M. Joel Exemplar of Excellence award for his contributions to the Hillel movement.
Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Jake holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Virginia. In 2009, he received his rabbinic ordination from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (RRC), from which he also graduated with a Master's of Arts in Hebrew Letters. Prior to rabbinical school, Jake was a fellow for PANIM: The Institute for Jewish Leadership and Values. He lives in Charlottesville along with his wife Lindsay and their children Sophie, Jonah, and Caleb. Annie Weinberg, Assistant DirectorAnnie joined the Brody Jewish Center team as a Development Associate in 2019 after graduating from the University of Virginia with a B.S.Ed in Youth & Social Innovation and a B.A. in Psychology. After completing the Springboard Innovation Fellowship and earning a Master's degree in Nonprofit Studies from the University of Richmond, Annie continued her work at the BJC as the Director of Jewish Student Life, where she focused much of her work on developing the first year WaJew experience, including early move-in and leadership development programs. She is passionate about the nonprofit sector, fostering healthy workplace culture, building community among young adults, and empowering college students to grow personally and professionally. You can find her on the Corner meeting interns for coffee, in Clem Library for her weekly Kvetch&Kvell sessions with students, or on the Lawn handing out bagels every Wednesday (best day of the week)!
Annie considers herself an expert on finding trails, coffee shops, activities, and hidden gems around Charlottesville and spends her free time exploring town and traveling to new places around the world. Annie sits on the Board of the Rudlin Torah Academy in Richmond, where she attended Jewish day school for 9 years, and is an active alumna and volunteer with BBYO. Truman Brody-Boyd, Assistant Director of DevelopmentTruman is incredibly excited to be working as the BJC's Assistant Director of Development. Truman graduated from UVA in 2019 with B.A.s in Genocide Studies and Middle Eastern Studies, and spent many, many hours at the BJC. He began his career as a Social Justice Fellow at Boston University’s Hillel before returning to UVA to work in their Advancement office. Truman served as a Bicentennial Ambassador, and then an Assistant Director of Development at the School of Engineering before joining the BJC team. He finds meaning in harnessing parents, alumni, and community member energy and resources to support the mission and the work of the BJC.
Truman is a lifelong lover of the study of history, and in his free time can be found reading, exploring with friends, hanging with his cat Antilles, cheering on the Hoos (as any former CavMan must do!), or rolling dice for Dungeons and Dragons or another tabletop game. Rose Goldstein, Springboard Intrapreneurship FellowRose is excited to continue working with the Brody Jewish Center team as a Springboard Fellow. Rose joined the BJC following her graduation from UVA in 2022 with B.A.s in History and Jewish Studies and a minor in Spanish. Throughout the past year, she has felt continually empowered by students’ willingness to challenge themselves and each other as they engaged in meaningful Israel education and dialogue. As she begins her second year as a Springboard Fellow, Rose is thrilled to continue building community with WaJews as they negotiate their own relationships with Israel and the BJC.

Olivia Sullivan, Engagement AssociateOlivia is thrilled to start her position at the Brody Jewish Center as an Engagement Associate! Olivia graduated from James Madison University (Go Dukes!) in May 2023 with a B.S. in Communications Studies and a concentration in Public Relationships. Throughout her college career, she also pursued a minor in Philosophy as an academic interest of hers.
Olivia originally grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and is a huge Baltimore sports fan. She loves connecting with others, especially learning about different cultures and can't wait to move to Charlottesville. Olivia enjoys traveling, playing with her dog Tucker, hiking, and she has a major sweet tooth. She can often be found hunting for the best coffee shops in the area. Ashley Nalven, Marketing and Development ManagerAshley Nalven (she/her) is thrilled to be a part of the UVA community! She grew up in Indialantic, Florida, and graduated from Florida Atlantic University (go owls!) with a degree in Sociology in 2017. She spent the year following graduation teaching English in Israel. The next three years were spent working as UMass Hillel’s Senior IACT Coordinator, helping students foster meaningful relationships with Israel and Judaism. After a short stop in corporate HR, she is thrilled to be back in the Jewish non-profit world! She is excited to be starting a new chapter with Hillel International, where she supports BU Hillel, Oregon Hillel, and the Brody Jewish Center with their grassroots fundraising efforts. In her free time, you can find Ashley exploring new towns, making lavender syrup for her iced oat milk lattes, hammocking with a good book, or petting a nearby dog.
